Issaquah Colorful Contemporary

This extensive renovation transformed a typical 1970s split-level home into a bright, contemporary retreat tailored to an active Pacific Northwest lifestyle. Inspired by the homeowners’ love of the nearby Cascade Mountains, the design sought to create a stronger connection between spaces while bringing more natural light, warmth, and personality into the home.

The original floor plan was compartmentalized with limited sight lines between the kitchen, dining, and living areas. Through thoughtful structural modifications and strategic space planning, the main level was opened to encourage gathering and connection while maintaining the home’s practical footprint. A previously isolated breakfast nook was absorbed into the kitchen, creating a more generous workspace and improving the overall flow of the home.

While a fully vaulted ceiling was beyond the project’s budget, a large skylight and carefully considered architectural details create a heightened sense of volume and openness. Structural elements required to support the renovation were transformed into design features, seamlessly integrated into the kitchen and contributing to the home’s custom character.

Throughout the renovation, a palette inspired by mountain landscapes brings depth and warmth to the interiors. Rich wood tones, muted blue cabinetry, and soft stone surfaces evoke the colors of forested peaks, cloud-covered skies, and rugged Northwest terrain. Expansive windows flood the kitchen with daylight, reinforcing the connection to the outdoors while creating a bright and welcoming heart of the home.

The transformation extended beyond the kitchen, with updates to the entry, stair railings, lighting, and finishes throughout the house. Custom details, including a tailored stair runner and illuminated handrail, add comfort, character, and everyday functionality. In the primary bath, thoughtful planning maximized storage and usability within a compact footprint, pairing efficient organization with luxurious materials and light-enhancing design elements.
