Somerset Kitchen

The original oak and tile kitchen from the early 90’s did not reflect the style of the new homeowners; and the kitchen did not work well despite the expansive space. Our primary goal became to move the cooktop off the island – a large skylight above prohibited proper venting. Secondary goals were to create a more functional prep space, increase storage, and lighten the space with materials as well as better lighting. We met these goals and then some, with the space becoming a beautiful balance of form and materials. Opaque glass uppers and areas of display help to lighten the height of the kitchen and continue the strong visual line of the high clerestory windows. Removing the large but inefficient corner pantry and replacing it with more functional pantry cabinets helped not only with storage, but also the work flow of the kitchen.
